Situated on the banks of the Douro River, the Caldas de Aregos has been sought since the 12th century for the unique value of its waters, becoming one of the best thermal springs in the country in the middle of the 20th century. Searching for their curative value, they led Queen Dona Mafalda to build a shelter there in 1102, which would be the forerunner of the various bathhouses that followed. Nowadays, the current resort of Rainha Dona Mafalda has modern and diverse equipment that allows the application of the latest thermal techniques for the prevention and thermal cure, being aimed at various health and wellness programs.
