The Zoological Museum is linked to the creation of the Faculty of Philosophy and subsequent organization of the Cabinet of Natural History collections comprising the three kingdoms of Nature. Focusing on the study of the fauna of Portugal and former Portuguese colonies the Museum 's assets consist predominantly of species belonging to the different groups as well as extinct in some of these regions. It also has a collection of comparative anatomy, a collection, unique in the country, eggs and nests of birds in Portugal and a collection of anomalies and monstrosities.
