The Archaeological Museum of Carmo was founded from the ruins of the old Church of the Convent of Our Lady of the Expiration of Monte do Carmo, founded by D. Nuno Alvares Pereira in 1389. The beautiful ogival arches of the old Carmo Church welcome this museum, endowed with a valuable archaeological, historical, and artistic collection, from Prehistory to Modernity. The Gothic architectural style has special importance in the museum, which presents a set of sculptures from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, including the tomb of King Fernando I.
