Monastery of the Order of Cister, its construction began in 1168, and having its foundation closely linked to the figure of Teresa Afonso, wife of Egas Moniz, the monastic complex was widened greatly in the XVII and XVIII century, highlighting a new and monumental cloister in the XVIII century, with traces of the architect Carlos Gimach. Counting on his estate with works of some of the biggest names in painting in Portugal, it was classified National Monument in 1997. The Monastery of Santa Maria de Salzedas is one of the most visited in the Douro region.
