Calçada de Sta Clara, 7, 9000–036 Funchal

The Frederico de Freitas House-Museum occupies the Calçada Palace, former residence of the Counts of Calçada, whose origin dates back to the 17th century. For nearly 40 years it was the residence of Dr. Frederico de Freitas (1894-1978), lawyer, notary and collector from Madeira, who acquired an impressive collection of works of art, bequeathed by his death to the Autonomous Region of Madeira. Here are important nuclei of furniture, sculpture, painting, ceramics, glass and metals. In 1999, the Casa-Museu was enriched with the opening of the House of Azulejos (tiles), where the vast collection of Portuguese and foreign tiles is exhibited.
