Located in the Palácio de São Pedro, one of the most significant works of Portuguese civil architecture, from the mid- XVIII, has study collections that currently reach more than 41,166 copies. It has in principle the knowledge of the fauna, flora and geology of the Madeiran archipelago. In the Municipal Aquarium, located on the ground floor, are represented the most important elements of the coastal marine fauna of Madeira.
