Parque Natural da Ria Formosa is a unique combination of lagoons, islands, marshes, sand dunes, and saltpans, all of which are important habitats for a diverse range of plant and animal species.
The park covers an area of 18,400 hectares and extends along 60 kilometres of coastline. It is home to several islands, including Ilha de Faro, Ilha da Barreta, Ilha da Culatra, and Ilha de Tavira, which are popular destinations for tourists seeking unspoiled beaches and crystal-clear waters.
