A little above the Castle of Guimarães, Casa de Margaride has been built since the 10th century, with wide views over the mountain of Penha and the Monastery of Santa Marinha da Costa. This property belonged to Countess Mumadona Dias and is referred to in medieval documentation as "Villa Margaridi." Chauffeur's Lodge, Rosinha's Lodge, Maximino's Lodge and Pinto's Lodge are tourist accommodations in which sobriety and refinement are combined with a secular art of well receive. This house (and its beautiful garden) is classified by the Portuguese State as Heritage of Public Interest.
